What WikiShowdown collects
WikiShowdown uses limited first-party analytics to understand game usage and improve the product. This is aggregate product-usage data, not a personal user profile.
Analytics may include a randomly generated anonymous browser identifier, a session identifier, pages or modes used, event timestamps, Daily score and Ranking Accuracy, share method or result, and Classic final streak or personal best.
What the analytics database does not store
WikiShowdown's analytics system does not intentionally store your name, email address, IP address, raw User-Agent string, precise location, article choices or order, article names, puzzle pageview values, clipboard contents, share destination, or fingerprint data.
The application does not intentionally use IP addresses for analytics identification. Ordinary hosting and network infrastructure may still process connection information while delivering the site.
Browser storage
WikiShowdown uses localStorage for game progress, Daily completion state, personal bests where applicable, and a random anonymous analytics identifier. An ephemeral analytics session identifier may be stored in sessionStorage.
No analytics cookies are currently used. Clearing browser or site storage may reset saved game state and the anonymous analytics identity.
First-party analytics
Analytics events are sent directly to WikiShowdown's own server and are used for aggregate analysis such as visits, starts, completions, shares, and return usage. Analytics failures do not block gameplay.
WikiShowdown does not currently use third-party analytics services.
Sharing and external sites
Choosing Share Score may open your browser or device's native sharing interface, or copy a result to the clipboard. WikiShowdown does not record which destination or app you choose.
Wikipedia, Wikimedia, and other external sites have their own privacy practices.
